BMW at The Amelia
The year 2025 marks 50 years of the BMW 3 Series — the vehicle that truly established BMW in North America. The Amelia will feature a curated display of examples chronicling the evolution of the 3 Series through seven generations over the past five decades. The display features meticulously preserved production models, legendary M cars and championship winning race cars that together show not only the incredible versatility of the 3 Series but illustrate its role in helping to define the BMW brand.
Featured Cars at The Amelia
The Amelia will showcase a selection of truly remarkable cars, including:
- 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Cabriolet: The Vittorio Jano-designed eight-cylinder engine, first introduced in the 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300, dominated most major period races. The 8C 2900 evolved from those roots, with Chassis No. 412028 believed to be a 1938 Mille Miglia prototype. Ordered new by Italian Champion Giuseppe Farina, it’s the only 8C 2900 bodied by Farina.
- 1965 Aston Martin DB5 – James Bond evocation: The Aston Martin DB5, introduced in 1963, became iconic after appearing as James Bond’s car in Goldfinger. - 1995 Honda NSX Type R: In 1984, Honda partnered with Pininfarina to design the HP-X, which evolved into the NSX. The 1990-2005 NSX featured a 270 hp, 3.0-liter V-6 engine, VTEC and an all-aluminum monocoque body. This Japanese-market variant, Chassis No. 0430, is lighter, track-oriented and finished in Championship White Gray over red Alcantara.
- 1980 BMW M1: To compete with Porsche’s 935, BMW developed the M1, featuring a 277 hp, 3.5-liter M88 engine and a mid-engine design. Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro, it debuted in 1978. Delays led to its homologation in 1981, after which it was no longer competitive. BMW produced 450 M1s, including 50 racing models.
- 2024 Gunther Werks Speedster: The Gunther Werks Speedster is a reimagined Porsche 993 Speedster, with only 25 units produced. Powered by a 4.0-liter, flat-six engine delivering 435 hp, it features a carbon fiber body, a six-speed manual transmission and advanced suspension. Its design emphasizes lightweight construction, exceptional handling and an open-air driving experience.
